Panama is located on the isthmus between the Caribbean Sea and the Pacific Ocean. The Isthmus of Panama is a narrow, winding strip of land that connects South and North America, making the country a kind of crossroads of South American, North American and European trade routes.

Bordered by Costa Rica to the west and Colombia to the east, Panama faces the Caribbean Sea to the north and the Pacific Ocean to the south, on whose coast the capital, Panama City, is located. The official language is Spanish, though many locals also speak French and English.
